Manager Actuary

Responsible for managing activities of the department including performing major actuarial functions, planning, problem solving, staff management, communication and review of process and practices. Plan lead and deliver projects utilizing comprehensive understanding of complex actuarial principles and practices related to product development, pricing and financial reporting. Conduct research, validate data and make recommendations.



 

Job Description

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Mathematics, Finance, Actuarial Science or related degree
  • 5 -9 years’ experience in actuarial work with significant exposure to valuation of life, long term care, or disability insurance, and to actuarial modeling
  • Leadership experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Help manage the actuarial function by defining scope, developing procedures, conducting research, and coordinating completion of actuarial activities or corporate projects. These may include:
  • New product development and implementation
  • Inforce block analysis and rerating
  • Studies and Reporting for product evaluation – experience studies, underwriting protocols, expense studies etc.
  • Development, maintenance and use of actuarial projection models
  • Manage assigned staff
     
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of actuarial methods and practices
  • Experience in SQL or related database language and database experience in general
  • Experience with actuarial modeling systems such as AXIS, Moses, ARCVAL/Prophet
  • Organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Self-directed. Comfortable starting from scratch and developing new material
  • Ability to communicate complex mathematical and financial concepts to less technical audience both verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
  • Ability to interact positively with individuals at all levels of the organization and the enterprise
